Founded in 1997 Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Architects was the creation of long-term architectural partners Ilmari Lahdelma (architect SAFA) and Rainer Mahlamäki (architect SAFA). Today the office comprises of a team of 37 architects, designers and communicators from both Finland and abroad. Our work shows inherently Finnish design - with a focus on sustainability, materials and high-quality detail - coming together with cutting-edge technologies and techniques, to project Finnish architecture on to the international stage.
A key emphasis for the office is to design for the context; both with regards to the physical, social and historical background of the project. Each design is taken with no preconceptions and subsequently the solutions are fundamentally contextual and responsive to their situation. Each project is its own thesis, delivering an experience totally unique to that building.
We have a long established history of delivering projects right across the spectrum of architectural typologies; public and cultural buildings, offices, residential, renovations, urban planning, exhibition design, interiors and furniture design. And recent successes have seen us being able to spread our Nordic design vision across Europe.
